Look Thinner Instantly

Drink lots of water.

We all know this one, but it’s important to remember that water is the single best choice for effective weight loss. Whether it’s still or sparkling, aim to make water your go-to beverage choice. Think water is boring? Try adding fresh lemon slices, lime, cucumber, and even a slice of tomato to add flavor without adding many calories.

It may sound counterintuitive, but the more water you drink, the less fluid you’ll retain, and the less bloated you’ll look. When your body doesn't get as much water as it needs, it stores more water, which makes you look and feel swollen. Ample water intake also relieves constipation — you’ll look lighter around the middle by tonight!

Mind your posture.

Having good posture is the easiest way to look five pounds lighter (and a whole lot more confident). Your ears should be in line with your shoulders, and your chin parallel to the ground, rather than pointing up or down. Level your hips and tuck your tailbone to find a neutral spine position. Keep your feet parallel.

Heed key fashion 'don'ts.'

Forgot large prints (especially horizontal stripes) and pleated pants, which add bulk around your midsection.

Heed tried-and-true fashion 'dos.'

•Buy properly fitting bras and other “foundation garments.”
•Wear dark colors like navy, black, and gray (you’ll look even slimmer if you wear all one color).
•Draw eyes toward your best feature and away from your problem zones — if a thick middle is the problem, for example, wear a skirt that shows off your shapely legs.
•Buy appropriately sized clothing; you’ll look larger if you’re trying to squeeze into a too-small outfit or are draped in a big-top tent.
